Two Seminarians to be Ordained as Transitional Deacons

The Church of Scranton is excitedly preparing for the ordination of two young men to the transitional diaconate. Seminarians Michael Drevitch and Joe Mosley will be ordained transitional deacons by Bishop Joseph Bambera at the Cathedral of St. Peter in Scranton on Saturday, May 23rd at 10am.

Ordination as a transitional deacon generally occurs after a seminarian has completed at least three years of graduate study in theology. Ordination to the transitional diaconate usually takes place one year prior to priestly ordination.

As deacons in the Church, Mosley and Drevitch will be ordinary ministers of Baptism, and will be able to preside at weddings, assist the priest at Mass, proclaim the Gospel and preach, as well as preside at wakes and funeral services.

Joe Mosley, 32, is from Mayfield and is a parishoner at Sacred Hearts of Jesus and Mary in Jermyn. Both will begin their fourth year of theological studies at St. Mary's Seminary in Baltimore, MD.
